Scientists at Boston University have found evidence of CTE in the brain of an athlete as young as 18.”To see the kind of changes we’re seeing in 45 year olds is basically unheard of,” said McKee in an earlier interview with CNN.Duerson suffered a minimum of 10 known concussions during the course of his career, some of them involving loss of consciousness, said Dr. Robert Stern, co director of the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy. Symptoms that nagged Duerson after he retired from the NFL in 1993 were typical of cases such as Webster and Grimsley, including problems with impulse control, an increasingly short fuse and headaches.Duerson’s ex wife said that while playing professionally, the head trauma he bore on the field would become plain after games ended.”Sometimes he would come home with extreme headaches,” said Alicia Duerson during an interview with CNN in February.
His infantry company will soon be rotated back to the United States after a one year deployment. Because he’s an officer, he’ll probably be among those on the last plane out. We’re hoping it’ll be by Christmas. Dubois has a nasty streak, but his physical game reminded me of Benoit Pouliot’s sporadic physical game. Dubois is a big guy with a temper and the ability to hit, but he doesn’t always engage physically in puck battles. He flattens opponents now and then, but also has a tendency to go into puck battles stick first and try to win them with his quick hands and long reach.
Dickey had the second best ERA in the National League. Two years before that, he was seventh. Both times he was below three runs every nine innings pitched. But Danbom achievements didn end in college. He once had his picture taken with J. Edgar Hoover and later became an FBI agent.
No, my problem here is no different from when I mentioned seeing hockey in person as one of the points in my “5 Supposedly Fun Activities Nobody Actually Enjoys (Part 2)” article last year. My argument then was that, despite being a vastly superior game to soccer in terms of action and scoring and such (and by “vastly” I mean “barely”), the fact that the puck is nearly impossible to see when watching in person makes the entire hockey experience a lot less enjoyable. And, as you can see in this shot from a recent NHL Winter Classic, the problem is made infinitely worse in a stadium environment..
It would be easy to say Burfict isn’t worth the trouble, but when he’s available, fit and motivated, he’s a Pro Bowl caliber player. When he’s not around, the Bengals don’t have anyone in his mold to patrol the field the way he can on his best day. That needs to change..
